Bio

“Menua Kitai integrates the rich cultural heritage of Borneo with contemporary artistic forms, creating a diverse and inclusive performance. The project highlights traditional Malaysian music and instruments such as the Sapeh, Kulintangan, and bungkau, and blends them with modern Western music and sounds of nature. This fusion not only preserves traditional cultural expressions but also makes them accessible to a broader audience, promoting cultural equity. By incorporating diverse musical elements and dance movements, the project celebrates cultural diversity and ensures that multiple cultural voices are represented and appreciated.
Menua Kitai emphasizes active spectator participation throughout its development and performance stages. Workshops and interactive sessions allow audiences to engage directly with the creative process, providing feedback and contributing ideas. This participatory approach ensures that the performance reflects the interests and perspectives of its audience, creating a more engaging and personalized experience. By involving spectators in the creative process, the project empowers them to become co-creators, enhancing their connection to the performance.
Breaking Down Barriers Between Roles, Sectors, and Disciplines:
The project transcends traditional boundaries by integrating music, dance, and environmental storytelling, creating a multidisciplinary performance that engages audiences on multiple levels. This interdisciplinary approach encourages dialogue between different art forms and cultural expressions, fostering innovation and creativity. By breaking down barriers between roles and disciplines, Menua Kitai promotes a more inclusive and collaborative artistic environment, enriching the overall theatrical experience”.
